Review of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971) by Christopher S — 12 Feb 2012

While the Tim Burton remake with Johnny Depp was solid, it does not compare to the original. This film stuck to most of Roald Dahl's imagination from the novel itself and the acting was superb. Gene Wilder was excellent as the reclusive and eccentric candy maker and for once Depp could not measure up to a role.

While this film had some dark feel to it in some moments, it was light and showed that dreams can come true. Great work by Mel Stuart to bring all of Dahl's characters to life.
