Review of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971) by Ray N — 18 Feb 2012
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is easily the finest cinematic adaptaion of a work by Roald Dahl. The story centers on a Charlie Bucket (Peter Ostrum), a young boy who wins a tour of the fantastical and enigmatic Wonka factory.
Once he's in there, he and a group of spoiled brats are subject to the slightly maniacal guidance of Willy Wonka (Gene Wilder). Mirthful, visually bedazzling, and incomparably unique, this brilliant children's film rises to greatness thanks to its whimsical spirit and Wilder's masterful performance.
