Review of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971) by Jeremy B — 17 Nov 2012
This movie did NOT need to be remade. It's a classic in-and-of itself. Between an original movie and its remake sometimes the original wins out and sometimes the remake does...in this particular instance the original definitely does. True, Wonka is a dark character, but that fact isn't dwelled upon here, nor should it be because that would take away from the storyline...as stated above this one's a classic, though, so much so that even 15-20 years after it was released it was a major part of my childhood growing up. It's a fun story about luck and good fortune, focusing on making the dreams of a little boy come true when all else seemed against doing so. Those stories are fun to tell, especially when one feels just like that little boy, and the hope that one day things can turn around.
On another note I can't believe that Paramount Pictures promoted this as a musical...
