Review of Wild Zero (1999) by Bryan G — 16 May 2010
I am without a doubt a huge zombie film fan. If you have at least one zombie in your movie, I will see it. I?ve even sat through crap like House of the Dead because of these bumbling terrors. So, of coarse when I heard about Wild Zero, I had to see it.
It took me some time to actually getting around to buying this movie. And now, I?m glad I finally did. This is not only one of the best zombie movies I have ever seen, but certainly one of the best Japanese horror movies as well.
The movie follows Ace, an extreme fan of a group called Guitar Wolf (an actual Japanese Rock/Punk group). On his way toward one of their concerts, Aliens invade Earth and bring back the dead. Now the streets are filled with flesh eating ghouls standing in the way of the band Ace loves, as well as the woman he loves.
This is certainly one of the most bizarre films I have ever seen. It is so over the top, but works so perfectly well. I really liked the crazy Night Club Manager who chases Guitar Wolf through the film after they shoot off some of his fingers. Its funny seeing this poofy wig wearing man in hot pants running around with a shotgun.
The gore isn?t as bad as I thought it would be, but what is in there is pretty good. A little too many CGI head shots for my taste, but none the less still enjoyable. If you love zombie movies, and Rock n? Roll music, then this movie is for you. .
