Review of Wild Wild West (1999) by Murder C — 28 Nov 2010
Loosely based on the TV series by the same name from the 1960's, "Wild Wild West" stars Will Smith as James West that together with U.S. Marshal Artemus Gordon (Kevin Kline) must stop a evil inventor (Kenneth Branagh) from taking over the United States of America.
"Wild Wild West" is a action-comedy that fails on both genres it tries to be. First, it's stupid and never intentionally funny and for the action, well there is really nothing memorable about it at all.
Will Smith acting is horrid and Kenneth Branagh fails to make an impact as a villain even with his character missing his lower body. Only positive thing I can say about this movie is that it's funny to see the mechanical spider in the third act after hearing director/writer Kevin Smith's story behind it (check out: "An Evening With Kevin Smith").
