Review of Wild at Heart (1990) by Felix G — 22 Dec 2008
The romance is passionate, the performances staggering, and the endless references to "The Wizard of Oz" are provocative. Still, I did not connect with this film the way I have connected with other Lynch films.
Where "Eraserhead," "Blue Velvet," and "Mulholland Dr." created worlds that existed effectively on the edge between dream and reality, "Wild at Heart" often goes so far over the edge that it loses the personal touch that makes Lynch's best work resonate.
Still, it lingers in the mind, and I have a feeling it will improve with multiptle viewings.
