Review of Wild at Heart (1990) by Tyler E — 02 Aug 2013
Nicolas Cage plays Sailor Ripley, a violent ex-convict who falls in love with Lula Pace Fortune played by Laura Dern who is the daughter of the rich and mentally unstable Marietta played by Diane Ladd.
After Sailor is released from prision after killing one of Marietta's thugs, he and Lula escape on a wild cross-country road trip pursued by his parole officer, her mother, criminals, bounty hunters, and detectives.
Along the way, they both share their pasts and respective obsessions, meet a lot of bizarre folks including ex-marine Bobby Peru played by Willem Dafoe who persuades Sailor to take part in a bank robbery ending him up in prison again.
Overall, can I recommend this movie? Yes I can. Who would like this movie? People who like really graphic and gritty movies. Movies that aren't steadily being artistic; they throw it at you from the minute the movie starts.
They don't use a lot of dark lighting to make the film brooding like any James Cameron movie; the grittiness does the job itself like in any Quentin Tarantino movie. A lot of Tom Cruise's movies also use this technique as well.
There is one song titled "Love Me" which is sung by Nicolas Cage himself and I can tell you, he is definitely a great singer and he pulls it off flawlessly. Written and directed by the legendary David Lynch, Wild At Heart gets a 9.
6/10.
