Review of Wild at Heart (1990) by Augustine H — 14 Aug 2013
Featuring almost all trademarks from David Lynch, including haunting music, swift cinematography, dream-like sequences and images, bizarre characters, explicit sexuality, road driving and memorable song from Elvis Presley, Wild at Heart should have been a classic road movie for the story is far simpler than Lynch's later work The Lost Highway.
Indeed, Laura Dern and Nicolas Cage have been giving their best to complement with the weird Isabella Rossellini and Willem Dafoe, the twisted relationships Diane Ladd has made the story unnecessarily deviated and uninteresting.
You just won't care what is going on, and what is going to come up. Worse still, the recurring bizarre images and strong sexuality do nothing more but to make David Lynch pretentious playing with the audience with nothing serious to be revealed.
