Self indulgent and boring, with none of the emotional impact of the novel. This is literally Reese Witherspoon walking and thinking about stuff for two hours. It has an independent vibe to it but, as is often the case when studios and big stars attempt independent sensibilities, it's incoherent and nonsensical.
It could have been everything but.
