This movie reminded me why I loved Reese Witherspoon on screen in Man in the Moon, Pleasantville, and Election. Her honesty, intelligence, and humor as an actress do justice to Cheryl Strayed's journey.
In fact, there are two great performances in Wild. Laura Dern is wonderful as Strayed's mother, and the scenes with her and Witherspoon truly illustrate the close, loving bond between mother and daughter.
It was great to watch a film in which the female lead was not yet another victim but someone who took charge of her life.
