Review of Wild (2014) by Matt H — 19 Mar 2015
Wild is a movie about survival. It's also the story about love. It's a story about the relationship between a daughter and a mother. When the mother dies in cancer the daughter doesn't really know what to do with herself. The grief is quite quickly replaced with sex and heroin and she doesn't really know how to get out of it so she decides to hike The Pacific Crest Trail. This is the story about the hike that might have saved her life and might just have healed her heart.
The movie is sadly not the book. The book was poetic and lyrical in a way that the movie just couldn't be but it was refreshing to see Reese Witherspoon play a role like Cheryl Strayed. This is one of her best movies yet alongside Walk the Line and The Man in the Moon. I hope there's more to come. This is a journey that everyone should take a part of, and learn something from.
