Review of Wild (2014) by David E — 29 Mar 2015
Based on the real life experience of Cheryl Strayed, "Wild" stars Reese Witherspoon as Strayed, who goes on a thought provoking, emotional journey by hiking through the Pacific Crest Trail. As she experiences some setbacks on her journey, she reflects to some setbacks (e.
G. the death of her mother (played by Laura Dern), divorce of her husband, & drug abuse) that motivated her in the first place; at times, she wants to give up, but she is motivated & headstrong enough to continue on.
"Wild" features great acting (Witherspoon & Dern were nominated for Oscars as Best Actress & Best Supporting Actress, respectively), neat direction, good taste of music, plenty of tense/heartwarming/sad moments, & overall a very captivating story with unique symbolism & meaning (such as how I believe the apparitions of Strayed's mother & a fox are one & the same, thus making her able to proceed on her hike).
One of the best films of 2014!
