Review of Wicker Park (2004) by Jonathan P — 12 Feb 2009
I'm sure there's an interesting idea for a story in here somewhere, maybe L'appartement, the movie it's based on got it right, but this really didn't.
In it's attempt to be slightly alternative and set a mood, the film takes on editing techniques that are completely jarring in tone, and make the movie more complicated than it really is, and ultimately soulless and downright boring.
Not only is Josh Hartnett a terrible actor, the entire film is packaged in a pretty soft bow as bearing some semblance of true love and romance, when really it's all about slutty, creepy stalkers with no semblance, impact or consequence on their characters. Plus, who leaves little notes laying around in the hopes they will get read by the right person, in a world of mobile phones?
Despite all it's flaws, the movie is just downright dull anyway. *SNORE*.
