Review of Wicked Little Things (2006) by Nathan — 24 Oct 2008
Have you noticed how much I have in common with the critics? I mean, I should have a whole slew of film writers over to the house one night for tea, don't you think? Wicked Little Things blew my socks off!! From the first installment of the After Dark Horror Fest series, this film is a combination of both fine writing and well crafted filmmaking (a rare combination in this genre). Besides from being absolutely stunning on the eyes, both Lori Heuring (Newton Boys) and Chloe Grace Moretz (The Amityville Horror) put together wonderful performances. Though their characters are cliched and a bit naive (imagine that), the mother/daughter tension between the two is well crafted. Director J.S. Cardone does a great job of bringing the haunting allure of backwoods mountain life to the forefront, while never really loosing track of the film's true focus: a bereaved family trying to put the puzzle back together. The mining children are absolutely haunting. I would suggest this film to any film buff...just excellent.
-8.5.
