Review of Why Him? (2016) by Anastasios K — 03 Feb 2017

"Why Him" was a movie I didn't see coming at all. I had seen posters for this movie and the cast looked solid but I had no intentions of seeing this Christmas comedy. This movie wasn't groundbreaking by any means, however it was a fun time and caught me by surprise.

Like I said before this movie does nothing new, however it's very good in its execution. James Franco was hilarious in a very gratuitous role, and its those shock moments from him that really bring out the laughs. Bryan Cranston is alright here, but to me he was just doing an impression of Robert De Niro's character from "Meet the Parents." At times it is very funny seeing his serious dad character go head-to-head with Franco's extreme character, however it gets old fast.

To me the real star of this movie was Keegan-Michael Key, one of the brilliant minds from Comedy Central's hit show "Key and Peele." I didn't even know he was in this movie, but boy was I pleasantly surprised to see him there. Every scene he was In, his character stole the show. The moments where I laughed the most were the moments that contained Key's character.

In conclusion, Why Him is a perfectly good Christmas comedy that took me completely by surprise. This movie isn't groundbreaking and overall it's an okay film, but there are quite a few laughs to be had here and I recommend catching this movie soon. 3 Stars.
