Review of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966) by Charley R — 15 Dec 2007
This movie, based on the Albee play, is nearly perfect, Taylor's acting dynamic and different from her usual stuff, Burton's handling of George mesmerizingly vicious and realistic. The black and white helps the film retain a tired, drunken feel.
My single beef with the movie is the music--soupy 50's strings chiming in whenever a dramatic moment happens, making only one perspective take, which is NOT what should happen. Each of the characters should sort of morph around into different roles, and the music alone dented the acting just a little.
