If I was ever asked to name the five best movies ever made I would probably mention The Godfather, Gone With The Wind, Casablanca and this movie.. number five well the eternal optimist in me wants to say that maybe itâ??s yet to be made or maybe I havenâ??t watched it yet.

Like this movie which I watched pretty randomly .And I WAS BLOWN AWAY. why has this movie been so underrated .I have no idea. .Based on the Play of the same name Directed by the Great Mike Nichols featuring two of the biggest and talked about stars Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burtonâ?¦it focuses on one night of fights, repressed emotions of all kinds ,mind games ,emotional revenge and above all some of the fine acting one will ever see.

Itâ??s about George (Burton) and Martha (Taylor) an aging couple who invites young couple Played by Sandy Dennis and George Segal one Saturday night for drinks. .from there it becomes a night of emotional and psychological mind games and battle .

.which seems to be boiling underneath the older coupleâ??s relationship for some time. .It is very intense and yet there are some funny moments as well. Elizabeth Taylor delivers the best performance of her career and rightly won the best actress Oscar .

Richard Burton also gives a great performance but he is great in all of his movies. .The direction by Mike Nichols is SUPERB it catches the claustrophobic energy of the play and also at the height of emotional intensity releases it with a funny moments .

.like life a mixture of sorrow and humor .George and Martha are unhappy but they have a bond which defies all betrayals ,cruelties and insults they inflict upon each other. .its a love that is rarely expressed.

.like the scene where Martha expresses her true feeling about her husband in the kitchen towards the end of the movie. that is perhaps one of the best scenes and acting ever seen by me. I could go on and on about the movie which I watch as frequently as The Godfather and Gone With The Wind.

This is a true piece of cinematic gloryâ?¦.
