Review of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966) by Mike T — 19 Sep 2009
This is a GREAT play and an extremely good film. It's difficult to pin down what it is about this picture that sets it apart from anything I've ever seen, but there's definitely something. It moves with such intense energy to the extent where it blurs the line between stage and film.
Elizabeth Taylor's enormously extravagant performance is nicely offset by Burton's quieter, more nuanced character work and Mike Nichols' direction is superb. Definitely a landmark.
