Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966). Alcoholism and heavy dysfunctional drinking at its greatest!! A very powerful movie by first time director Mike Nichols. At first I recalled seeing this on the big screen but in 1966 I was 12 years old and I am sure my parents did not take me to see it.

(my mom -dad did not go to the movies) So I guess I saw this at college Rival at TTU in the early 1970s. I remember that it really "blew" me and my friends away it was so powerful. It still is.

. I saw this film again recently in my 65 inch DLP. the older professor and his wife invite the younger couple over for drinks and LET THE FUN BEGIN. This is really a mean nasty gut wrenching alcoholic movie and they do all the things alcoholics can do to each other (verbally) Taylor won for best actress but the film did not win the Best Film Oscar.

Burton and Taylor appeared together in a total of eleven films - and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? was their finest effort.I really think it is one of the more powerful films ever made. It was really shocking at the time and even so today-but is tame now compared to some other films.

The real power of the movie comes from the words of playwright Edward Albee. WOW Incredible play and incredible film. Movie-making at its greatest. Nichols' debut film won five Oscars (Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, Best B/W Cinematography, Best B/W Art/Set Direction, and Best B/W Costume Design) One of my favorite films 5 stars highest recommendation.
