Review of Who Killed the Electric Car? (2006) by Alber V — 18 Aug 2008
This is actually an entertaining documentary and well done in terms of its visual and information design. The information is presented in digestible packets, yet resists easy black and white answers. Rather than framing all the facts to create a foregone conclusion (very Mooresque), the director assumes audiences are intelligent enough to recognize how complex and inter-related the factors are that impede the progress of environmental measures like the EC. There really is no single culprit, but some are more damning than others.
The bonus is seeing a very unhinged, hermit-bearded, passionate Mel Gibson telling you from the edge of his seat about his wonderful car. Also, the toxic expressions on the faces of the auto and energy Captains of Industry who are present while Bush addresses environmental concerns during a pat speech on the White House lawn. Those villains!
