Review of Who Killed the Electric Car? (2006) by Nathan G — 27 May 2009
This film is an eye-opening look into the collaboration of influences that led to a perfectly viable form of transportation being unfairly pushed out of the market--possibly forever. While watching this, I was repeatedly surprised by just how much of the common knowledge about the electric car is just plain false: everything from mileage, to charging time, to cost-competitiveness.
It's hard to feel sympathy for the auto industry when you see to what lengths they went to squelch an efficient, clean vehicle in favor of huge, wasteful SUVs, and fuel efficiency that has at best stagnated (and at worst actually declined) in the past twenty years.
Highly recommended film.
