Review of Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) by Ryan V — 25 Feb 2012
This entertaining mash-up of film noir and animation stars Bob Hoskins as Eddie Valiant, a private eye who sank into a bottle when his brother was murdered by a cartoon character. Eddie finds himself involved in some shady business that gets Roger Rabbit, an animated movie star, framed for murder.
Eddie's reluctant efforts to clear Roger include a Chinatown-styled plot and cameos from Mickey Mouse, Woody Woodpecker, Betty Boop, and a slew of other "golden age" cartoon characters. This wonderful film, directed with warmth and skill by Robert Zemeckis, is also notable for featuring one of the last performances by voice acting legend Mel Blanc (Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck).
