Review of White Palace (1990) by Charley B — 24 Dec 2010
Let's face it: Susan Sarandon is the Grand Master MILF. MILF of all MILFS. Alltime super turbo best. I can't even imagine her starring in a movie where she's not 40 seducing younger men.
And in White Palace she is doing just that. Hot ass working class cougar in action. Then we have James Spader, who's not a bad actor. He and Susan just lack chemistry. Storyline's pretty basic. Two different age/social class meet, fall in love and both have their problems / past, yada-yada-yaa. Sarandon is awesome as always, but becides that, it's all bit too predictable, even boring.
And that's because the dramatic set up lacks credibility. i.e. The death wife of Spader really doesn't grab you. There's Kathy Bates and Jason Alexander on the supporting cast, but they don't even really affect the story. Maybe they should have written more scenes to Bates/Alexander to bring more comedial edge into it? Somehow it's all too "pointlessly serious" now.
