Review of White on Rice (2009) by Min K — 24 Mar 2011
Quirky and charming, but lacking in follow-through. Each of the main characters is introduced quite well, and a lot of the odd situations they find themselves in help magnify the pressures of life they feel.
Hiroshi Watanabe makes for a very likeable buffoon and Nae is a pleasure to watch. In general, the acting is executed quite well. I found the script to lose its weight and traction halfway through, and then reach a completely out-of-nowhere plot resolution which didn't so much accentuate the oddities of the film already establish as much as discount them completely.
At this point the humor lost its fun, and just because a reason to roll my eyes. Still, the actors are able to eke out some final performances in light of the strange conclusion.
