With all of the mediocre, unfunny and only-funny-because-they're-vulgar comedies going to theaters today, it's no surprise that the truly funny comedies all seem to be coming from film festivals these days.

Such is the case with White On Rice, a movie that has laughs to provide through out the film, and has a genuine charm that each character in the cast brings to the table. The film focuses on Jimmy, the well meaning but unfortunately clueless main character of the film, as he tries to fix his life after his wife has left him, tries to find true love and a better life.

Before I make this sound like a romantic drama let me assure you that, despite the subject matter, this movie never forgets that it's a comedy. Almost every scene in this movie had me laughing or at the very least, smiling, something that most theaterical comedies rarely make me do anymore.

Hiroshi Watanabe turns in a memorable preformance as the films main character, and is no surprise, the highlight of the movie, stealing the show with every scene he is in. This movie is well deserving of the rating I have given it, and you have seen any of the atrocious comedies that have gone to theaters these days, I think you owe it to yourself to check out White On Rice.

If it's playing in a theater or at a film festival near you, make sure to catch it. These guys definately deserve it.
