Review of White Oleander (2002) by Lisa P — 23 Aug 2007
With such a great cast and story, it's a wonder this movie didn't do that well. It seems nearly forgotten. Alison Lohman is definitely one of the best young actresses out there right now, Michelle Pheiffer does exactly what she's supposed to- make you hate her and Renee Zellweger plays her role of the lonely, depressed failed actress with perfection.
This movie illustrates Astrid's life beautifully, her dedication to her mother, her longings, her frustrations. Alison lohman absolutely breathes life into her character as if she weren't a character at all, but Alison Lohman herself.
Also, it's nice to see a drama like this end happily. It's far from a feel good movie, but it's one that will make you think.
