Review of White Heat (1949) by Ricky C — 24 Aug 2011
Wow! Let me have a deep breath! I ve just finished watching it and still have a stupid look on my face lol! first I would like to indicate that this movie is the best gangster movie of all time. it's not enough to call it ''milestone''.
Because this is a movie beyond it's time! If I was a director and I wanted to remake it, I wouldn't change a thing. Maybe the costumes but something else would be missing without fedora hats. A hitchcock-esque mother-obsessed gang leader, smart prison break scenes, oscillators mounted on vehicles, police informants, and the final scene at oil facilities !! James Cagney is breath-taking as a cold-blooded killer.
Not his mouth but his gun talks. That generates a very dangerous and tense environment. it is quite obvious that this movie is something like Gogol's Coat for directors like Scorsese, Coppola and Palma.
