Review of White God (2014) by Amanda C — 25 Apr 2015
A highly ambitious project, White God mostly works. At its strongest, it is a coming of age tale of a teenaged girl as she attempts to navigate all that entails and new living arrangements with her estranged father.
The relationship between her and her dog Hagen is also particularly strong. When Hagen is front and centre, however, White God flags a bit, struggling to create a connection between thr viewer and canine protagonist.
When the revenge film tropes kick in near the film's climax, it creates a bit of a jarring disconnect with the more emotionally driven rest of the film.
