Review of White God (2014) by Stefano C — 27 Sep 2017
Those that felt sympathetic for John Wick's dog may want to bring a tissue box with them if they catch this particular art house film. Director/writer Kornél Mundruczó is clearly a supporter for canine rights, crafting a movie that showcases the harsh conditions these animals face every day, domesticized or otherwise.
That said, there's a touching story of human-pet relationships here fit for a heartwarming Disney film (albeit with enough blood and gore to qualify for Eli Roth), even if the storyline ultimately goes a plot turn or two too far towards being maudlin.
Most impressive for the use of trained animals on screen, White God is certain to go down as one of the year's best-made foreign films.
