Review of White Dog (1982) by Steven B — 28 Nov 2008
A unique view of racism by Samuel Fuller, with the metaphor in the form of a white german shepherd who is discovered to be a "White Dog", trained specifically to attack African-Americans. Paul Winfield plays the animal trainer who tries to rehabilitate him.
It's suspiciously low-budget in spots (lots of dubbed dialogue and rough cuts), but the idea is unique and quite stirring. Criterion has done us a favor by releasing this, which up until now was unavailable in any home video format.
Hurrah!
