Review of White Christmas (1954) by Simon F — 22 Dec 2008
What a lovely way to enjoy the start of Christmas...I went to see the new "digitally enhanced" version at Harbour Lights last night, and it was great fun. Bing Crosby singing White Christmas always makes me smile and feel very nostalgic.
..and who couldn't fail to be moved at the end, when the old comrades in arms arrive back at the General's ski lodge for an impromptu sing and dance reunion. I loved the 1940s fashions, glamour and glitz, and if you can't enjoy a bit of schmaltz at this time of year, when can you? Danny Kaye was also a legend in his time, and formed a good duo with Bing.
Oh yes, and wasn't Rosemary Clooney beautiful? And a good singer too. Ignore the cynics go and enjoy. Merry Christmas. x.
