Review of White Christmas (1954) by David B — 23 Dec 2012
Michael Curtiz was one of old Hollywood's most versatile directors from action films to comedy. Here he very successfully turns out an excellent musical which has become a classic musical and touted as being the first film made in Vistavision.
VistaVision is a higher resolution, widescreen variant of the 35mm motion picture film format which was created by engineers at Paramount Pictures in 1954. The film does look sharp and colourful. There are some good numbers and although the dancing is not up to the same quality as MGM musicals of the time Vera-Ellen however has a couple of excellent tunes.
Rosemary Clooney (George Clooney's auntie) in on of her rare film appearances. This film flows quickly due to some sharp editing and a snappy script with some humour and romance. Great film to relax to at Christmas.
