Review of White Bird in a Blizzard (2014) by Andrei C — 27 Sep 2014
Watched the film White Bird in a Blizzard.
I really liked the trailer and read the synopsis and thought, this film had promise. It ended up as one of those cringe films. The only real sympathetic character in the film is the father. The film makes you dislike pretty much everyone else in it. The mother is mean, abusive and to say the least crazy. The daughter is self absorbed and disrespectful, even when she is right, she acts like such a turd, I had trouble empathizing. They have teens, or "young adults" from the 80's talking like no one I ever met at that age, and I knew a shit load of people in the 80's from every kind of "group." The twist at the end was out of left field. The director and original writer thought, "I'm gonna zing'em with this ending." Yeah, no one would expect that ending, because nothing in your story lead them to that ending. I can;t say what that ending was, but, there was no subterfuge to explain that ending.
Again, the only real sympathetic character in the film is the father, played by Christopher Meloni. I had high hopes for the film, and they were dashed to the ground. Maybe someone else can make sense of the film.
Despite all the negative things I had to say, the acting and photography was great. I just felt the story was weak, and characters loathsome.
