Review of White Bird in a Blizzard (2014) by Ian P — 16 Aug 2015
At the age of 17, Kat Connor's mother mysteriously disappears without any explanation. This has led Kat played by Shailene Woodley to go back-and-forth in flashback memories and people in search of an answer as her mother always haunts her in her dreams.
Woodley proved her acting prowess in this film and literally carried the film. But I also feel the film heavily relied on her stellar acting that it forgets to deliver a solid story to remember. Woodley was also daring in this film as she almost revealed her whole body, a striking contrast to her other teen themed films.
But this could pave way for more mature roles for her. Eva Green as Eve Connor was also memorable in this flick. I'm always impressed of Green's enigmatic and solid portrayal of characters especially as a lunatic but sad wife character in this movie.
She delivered what as is best needed in every performance she takes. The rests of the casts gave supporting act as well. The story of White Bird in a Blizzard has the right amount of mystery and twist that will keep you guessing until the end and you wouldn't saw that until the unexpected revelation.
The story might not be solid but it is still entertaining and worth to see. White Bird in a Blizzard is a drama thriller directed by independent filmmaker Gregg Araki.
