Review of White Bird in a Blizzard (2014) by Amari S — 28 Sep 2014
Bizarre and distasteful, "White Bird in a Blizzard" may just be one of the oddest and unsettling films you'll see in 2014. Not sure the reason that's it's story is not good, but for the reason that the execution of the film just comes off as creepy.
Shailene Woodley is good, as is the rest of the cast, but the characters they are portraying all seem off and I am not quite sure if the filmmakers captured the atmosphere they intended. There is a lot of build up to something you already see coming and in the end I was left unsatisfied after watching a film that I original had no interest in to begin with.
It is the type of film you will either accept or let go, and I had already let it go after the first 20 minutes. I will say that the dialogue was well-written and they definitely chose a great cast, but during every scene (as well as they are shot), something just feels off.
I wouldn't recommend this film unless you enjoy indie art films, because that is the closest category I would put it in. Boring and uninteresting, "White Bird in a Blizzard" is wasted potential.
