Review of White Bird in a Blizzard (2014) by Jill H — 09 Mar 2015
A perfect portrait of a dysfunctional family. The film is depressing, super-sexual, and actually pretty interesting at the best of times. It's true that the film takes it's time getting to it's fully satisfying ending, and a good deal of the film focuses on Woodley's sexual adventures.
Woodley plays a wholly realistic character that while not completely likable, is still relatable and real, Shiloh Fernendez is also pretty great as her sometimes boyfriend Phil, and Eva Green is pretty scary and sad as the depressed and sexually frustrated mother.
All in all, White Bird In A Blizzard is an interesting, sexual mystery about people who are each living unsatisfactory lives and the reason Woodley's character makes for a great focal point is because out of everyone in the film, she is the most alive.
It also doubles as an interesting character study for Woodley and the other people in her life, plus Woodley is nude for a good amount of the film and yes, we do see her breasts. I's also pretty scary and unsettling how much Woodley looks like Eva Green in some parts of the film.
