Review of Whisky Galore! (1949) by Trent R — 17 Mar 2010
Wonderful Ealing comedy from a young Mackendrick, with gorgeous B&W Scottish beaches, hills and sunsets. The car chase finale is highly accomplished and tightly paced, with laughs that hold up nicely. The ironic parallel drawn between domestic wartime preparedness being fueled by a convivial yearning for drink is amusing and refreshingly light in tone.
