Review of Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (2016) by Dann M — 20 Sep 2016
Based on a personal memoir, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot is a lighthearted and satiric look at the life of war correspondents. When her network is in need of war correspondents Kim Baker is sent to Afghanistan and struggles to maintain a long distance relationship and find stories that will get airtime.
Starring Tina Fey, Margot Robbie, and Martin Freeman, the film has a good cast that delivers fairly solid performances. And the film addresses some interesting aspects of journalism, including what information is responsible to report and how the press and military use each other.
However, the storytelling is a little weak and it isn't always clear where it's going. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, while it has a few problems, is an entertaining film with some important things to say about news culture.
