Review of Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (2016) by Paul G — 01 May 2018
Tina Fey is great in what is essentially a vehicle for herr in a departure from her usual stuff. There are some great sual moments - the women and the well comes to mind - and the score is superb, both in music choice and when used. The scene with Badfinger's Without You in the background is sublime. The story, though is a bit slow and tepid, despite it's possibilities. This may be because the support cast - all uniformly brilliant - are under-utilised by the script, in particular that of Christopher Abbot's character, Fahim. An enjoyable romp but.
I was left wanting more. As an audition for meatier roles, they all passed with flying colours.
