Review of Whiplash (2014) by Matthew B — 10 Nov 2015
Great movie! One of those movies that will make you think after it's over for hours and not about some deeper meaning but instead the interactions between the characters. J.K. Simmons is phenomenal keeping my on the edge of my seat constantly thinking "what is he going to do now?" Every scene with him in it is a great scene.
Miles Teller also does a very good job reflecting the treatment he receives from Simmons in his personal life and even the band showing what stress can do to a person. The dedication Teller portrays in his character Andrew is unlike any of a character I have seen with a complete lack of rationalization.
The movie will have you questioning J.K. Simmons' character to figure out if he is a good guy or the asshole as seen in the trailer. Very intense at times, a must-see and an instant classic.
