Review of While We're Young (2015) by Tyler R — 17 Apr 2015
While We're Young is the new film by Noah Baumbach who's previous films include The Squid And The Whale, Greenberg, and more recently Frances Ha. While We're Young stars Ben Stiller and Naomi Watts as Josh and Cornelia they are married and they're in there mid-forties and they're in kind of a rut.
One day Josh is teaching a class on the art of making documentaries he is approached by a young couple named Jamie and Darby and they are played by Adam Driver and Amanda Seyfried. The older couple starts hanging out with the younger couple and they begin having a newfound energy and a more fun youthful out look on things.
For a long time this is a really fun and smart film about relationships and the generations being able to get together and hang out and have a fun time. But then in the third act Josh starts to become suspicious about his new friends and then the film becomes a more dramatic and more angrier movie then it was in the following two acts.
It's a jarring tonal shift and it kind of slows the movie down for a little while but then it comes back in the end. In the end this is still a very smart and really funny film.
