Naomi Watts shines, as always, in Noah Baumbach's uneven but enjoyable new dramedy "While We're Young". This was my most anticipated film of the year so far, and while I certainly liked it, I didn't think love it as much as I wanted to.

The first 2/3 of the film is spot-on, with many laughs and sweet realizations. The last 1/3 loses interest, and becomes a movie less concerned with providing poignant scenes and laughs and more concerned with setting up the stage for later "big reveals" that really just detract from the story anyway.

When it was on the track to being satirical of the new "hipster" scene with their fedoras and wingtip shoes and typewriter fascination, I was fascinated and entertained. But as that slowly goes away, and all that needs to be said is said, where does it have to go? The answer is: nowhere near as bold.

All troubles aside, I liked watching the film and would still recommend it based on the performances from Watts and Amanda Seyfried, and for its ambitious (yet not always successful) qualities.
