Review of Where Eagles Dare (1968) by Steven B — 26 Jul 2007
One can view this flick much like a cowboy and indians western, except that the indians are in charge of the fort and the cowboys are the renegades. Burton and Eastwood are the cold killer cowboys and have lots of fun shooting off their automatic weapons and laying waste to as many Nazis as their endless stream of ammo would permit.
Richard Burton is a fast talker so you need to pay real good attention to him as he reveals much of the raison d'etre of the film. Clint Eastwood doesn't say very much. He lets his expertly held knife, explosives and MP44 do most of the talking.
Lots of lively action. Perhaps an inspiration for a pc game "Wolfenstein", predecessor to "Doom".
