Review of When Will I Be Loved (2004) by Jfloyd3 W — 13 Nov 2011
The little I've (mistakenly) seen seems to suggest that this "film" is silly, exploitative, pretentious, soft-porn - if only it were erotic - drivel!...yet admittedly filmed & performed a bit more professionally.
..while made even more sadly silly and presumptuous by thinking it's being arty by using classical music....seems to want it both ways in two ways: 1) a sexy thriller which is finally not about sex; 2) a spoiled woman with self-esteem issues who thinks she is exploiting men by being exploited by them while also ultimately attempting to proof her worth by diminishing that of others (that is about as clear as one can get about someone who is as unclear about themself).
..this self-loathing is again simply another reflection of its writer/director, Mr Tobach; in this sense he can be regarded as the last of the true "auteurs" - whatever, if any, consolation that may provide.
..she may be quite good here yet one assumes that this is the best Neve Cambell is now being offered; it's gotta be particularly difficult for actresses getting older...
