Review of When the Wind Blows (1986) by Timothy R — 29 May 2012
A gentle dark comedy, which is all the more scathing about the insanity of the cold war threat of nuclear mutually assured destruction by being set away from any centres of power and focusing solely on the effects on an ordinary, innocent (if slightly dim) retired couple.
The handling of the inconsistency and general uselessness of the government advice at the time is particularly well handled, as the couple struggle to follow it.
