I walked away from "When the game stands tall" wondering how I could have enjoyed it. I like Caviezel, but his performance was as flat and uninteresting as I've ever seen him. The film constantly bashed me over the head with cliches, religion, and overwrought melodrama.
It must have been the football. A reminder of my youth, hunger for my favorite sport which becomes desperate in August every year, and my admiration for men who can uplift troubled or misfortunate kids through teaching.
