Review of When Harry Met Sally... (1989) by Nick O — 04 Jul 2010
The quintessential romantic comedy! Rob Reiner directed this movie in great fashion. The script by Nora Ephron was one of the wittiest and most original ever put on film. The script spoke so many truths and it talked about stuff that is always on our minds, that just goes unsaid.
The chemistry betwen Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan couldn't have been better. This was a benevolent, entertaining, smart, and hilarious film that will put a smile on your face and make you feel good. This movie has an immortal line that I'm sure everybody knows. The real treat is finding out that that line is the punchline to one of the funniest scenes in movie history.
Rob Reiner movies usually never disappoint me and in this case, When Harry Met Sally went above and beyond my expectations. This is one of the best 80's movies and it might just be the best romantic comedy ever made. The screenplay of this movie is one of the greatest ever written and it crackles with wit and so many unspoken truths.
When Harry Met Sally is about how Harry (Crystal) and Sally (Ryan) keep meeting over the course of nearly a decade. The movie follows their up and down relationship as we see that men and women do have the potential of simply being friends. The movie is separated into sections that are separated by old married couples talking about situations that relate to the plot.
When it was all said and done, I thoroughly enjoyed the great When Harry Met Sally.
