Review of When Harry Met Sally... (1989) by Christopher S — 25 Nov 2011
I thought while When Harry Met Sally was extremely well written, this film failed to deliver as I expected. Nora Ephron is one of the best writers of the last 30 years and her script did not disappoint.
However, I thought Billy Crystal was miscast as Harry Burns and did not have the electric chemistry I expected with Meg Ryan. This film played like a 1970s Woody Allen ripoff without Woody Allen and Diane Keaton.
While the premise of the film had excellent potential, the overall acting left much to be desired. It also hurt the film greatly since this film really gained most of its notoriety from one particular scene.
That is never good at all. While that scene was memorable even today, the rest of the film was nothing special. For Rob Reiner, this was not on par with the rest of his filmography.
