Review of What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993) by Andy L — 18 Aug 2010
Lasse Hallstrom's movie, What's Eating Gilbert Grape? is a fantastic film and perfect in so many ways. So many sub stories of growing up, loss, the feeling of going now where, responsibility, love, embarrassment and loyalty is all found in this film and it is conveyed so well.
Johnny Depp plays Gilbert and we automatically feel sorry for him as he has so much responsibility and sacrifices so much for his family. Depp brings all the emotion that comes with such a complex character, we feel his pain and frustrations.
The highlight of this film for mine is Leonardo DiCarprio, who is the best by far in this film. He is such a good actor that sometimes it gets boring saying how good he is. He is just fantastic and so believable.
Darlene Cates is so inspirational in this film as well, props to her!!
You need to check this film out, it is one of the best.
