Review of What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993) by Hassan I — 30 May 2011
This is a great film about a man who believes he is stuck in a dead end life until he meets a girl who helps him find himself. Meanwhile, he faces some conflicts regarding his dis-functional family who are facing struggles after the death of his father.
The movie is very honest and heartfelt with strong performances from Johnny Depp, Juliette Lewis, and Mary Steenburgen. The highlight of the movie is Leonardo DiCaprio as Gilbert's mentally disabled brother Arnie.
He is wholly convincing and energetic in the role that he just a joy to watch.
